Bonus city - Sumy! Institutionally the city houses the S. Mararenko Teacher-training Institute and the Sumy Museum of Arts with works of Shevchenko and other notable artists are on display. Architectural monuments include a 17th-century guild assembly hall, churches from the 18th and 19th centuries and several theaters. Sumy manufacturing include machinery, instruments (including electron microscopes), fertilizers, and paints; alcoholic beverages, sugar, meat, consumer goods including clothing and footwear, building materials are also produced along with bio and porcelain manufacturing. Beginning in 1765, Sumy served as either provincial or county center until the establishment of Sumy Oblast in 1939, when it again became provincial capital. |
